Motivating Students

Assisting with homework

Students are able to bring math-related homeworks to the tutoring lesson. I’ll help by asking thorough questions to the student allowing him/her to use their prior knowledge and new learnings from our sessions to form their own solutions and responses. This will give learning a practical approach for effective tutoring.

About Me

Hello, My name is Sonix Aiga and I’m currently a Year 9 student at Bacchus Marsh Grammar. From a young age, I found out my passion for maths and I love working with numbers and the enjoyable satisfaction of solving challenging math problems. I just find it fascinating how all fields of mathematics are interconnected. Numbers and equations are used in order of operations, geometry, measurement but it’s also vital in algebra and calculus. The great thing about problem-solving is that there isn’t always an answer but the process of trying out different solutions for different scenarios is extraordinary.

I’m excited to be supporting others as a passionate math tutor. By providing a safe space for young students, it’ll ensure they are free to express their minds which builds a strong teacher-student relationship. I will also use effective teaching strategies from my personal classroom experiences into our sessions to make it coherent and beneficial. These sessions should aim to be educational and enable students to meet their full potential. It’ll consist of teaching a certain concept(s) and then working on activities directed to practising this new knowledge. Therefore, I’m giving an opportunity for students to excel in their unique learning styles and hopefully develop new skills.

Over the years, I have gained new understandings and experiences which have given me an insight to some of my strengths and areas of improvement. I’ve identified some of my own strengths and key skills including music, coding, maths and exercising to name a few. I’ve discovered the value of playing musical instruments as a way to warm up your mind/brain before starting the day and for personal enjoyment. I’ve also been able to innovate some of my ideas through computer programming which practises my ability to problem-solve and creatively think outside the box. Obviously maintaining a healthy body is very important to keep the brain functioning and improves cognitive performance.

School acted as a place for me to open my mind to new challenges, absorb new information and have a strong willingness to learn, allowing me to strive in all things I do. It helped me acquire and receive new knowledge and constructive feedback from numerous friends and teachers which helped me become a better student. I aimed to be organised in notebooks and published work for effective revision as well as being presentable. I also try to take initiative in class by providing assistance and guiding my peers and classmates cooperatively. Fortunately, I formed productive routines and habits at both school and home that worked for me, which influenced my positive and diligent attitude in all learning environments.
